Carrie Underwood

2006 American Idol and Wolf Superstar Carrie Underwood had a pretty awesome plan A - she was in school to become a journalist.  We belive if this music career doesn't work out, she'll be OK...

Eric Church

Before North Carolina homeboy Eric Church was anybody, he worked third shift hours as a shop-at-home tv salesman. He claims that he earned a spot on their "wall of shame" when late one night a man called to order 200 knives for $19.95. Assuming that the guy had just returned from the bar, flipped on the tv and said "Hey I need those", he told the man to sleep it off and call back in the morning if he still wanted the knives. This got him fired and well on his way to a much bigger gig. Something about those country boys with big hearts...

Jason Aldean

Blue collar advocate Jason Aldean sings from experience with his anthems about working hard and playing harder.  Before he was a big deal, he drove a Pepsi truck in the Georgia heat...without any air conditioning.  Rumors say he's a Coke fan now!

Martina McBride

Martina McBride

This Dairy Queen was serving up Hot Eats & Cold Treats in Hutchinson, Kansas while attending Jr. College. Traveling around trying to score gigs on the weekends, Martina McBride also sold T-shirts for Garth Brooks before releasing her first album in 1992.

Dierks Bentley

Dierks Bentley

Quite possibly the MOST humble beginning award goes to Dierks Bentley. Before his first hit "What Was I Thinking" took over the charts, he spent his days thinking about scrubbing toilets, but not just any toilets - houseboat toilets that many had been sitting for weeks at a time. He talks about how, at times the plumbing would malfunction and backfire ... and he didn't always get out of the way in time to miss the rain.

Luke Bryan

Luke Bryan

This guy got his humble start peeling off the brown lettuce in produce at a small grocery store in the summer. Later he joined the family business of Peanuts and Fertilizer working with his dad, until he picked up and moved to Nashville, scoring a record deal in just two months.

Scotty McCreery

Scotty McCreery

During his time on American Idol, Scotty McCreery also worked in Garner, NC as a cashier at Lowe's Foods. As the episodes aired, he still clocked in and as his fame started to rise, so did the line of customers at his station. His manager reports that it was difficult to get customers to go to any other line in the store.

Tim McGraw

Tim McGraw

This Country Legend was quite the athlete in his youth and attended Northeast Louisiana University on a baseball scholarship. Interestingly, Tim McGraw had no idea until age 11 that his biological father was actually Professional Baseball Player, Tug McGraw. Prior to then, he believed that his stepfather was his biological father, Horace Smith, and even carried the Smith name. It wasn't until age 18 that Tug McGraw admitted that Tim was infact his son and they made amends. In college he learned to play guitar and would play for tips. He claims that his roommates would hide his guitar from him all the time because he was that bad!

Miranda Lambert

Miranda Lambert

Growing up in Longview, TX was no teenage walk in the park for this girl. Her parents ran a private detective agency - I can't imagine Miranda Lambert's boyfriends got away with too much and never missed curfew!

Zac Brown Band

Zac Brown

Before he was rocking out to "Chicken Fried", Zac Brown was doing more than just frying chicken - he owned his own restaurant called Zac's Place. Before that he was frying up catfish at The Wagon Wheel  and Big Macs at McDonalds. Most impressively however, his experience as a camp counselor is what led him to found a non-profit for disavantaged kids, and later start Camp Southern Ground where he could combined his passion for camp with his heart for disadvantaged kids. Talk about using your gifts for good!
